Myoung Ga - Korean Restaurant, Surabaya

Myoung Ga -Resto Masakan Korea, Surabaya

Tampak Depan Myoung Ga
Myoun Ga front

Myoung Ga, this place rates amongst one of the best Korean restaurant in Surabaya. Alongside this, people usually have other personal favorites such as Baek Su, De Jang Gem and Go Ju Mong, they have their own unique appeal such as better beef quality, atmosphere or varieties. I haven't tried the other so I can't yet make a comparison. There's also another place that is famous for the korean mart, Mu Gung Hwa in Darmo Park. The last one is a chain restaurant in malls, Kogyo, which also quite nice, but don't offer free side dishes like the other restaurants.
On of the nice thing about this Korean Restaurant, along with the other, is the free side dishes (Banchan) of pickles, fried fish and fritters, Kim Chi and other assortments. I'm told by my friend that Myoung Ga is one that serve the biggest quantities of side dishes.

Dolsot Bibimbab 돌솥 비빔밥(vegetarian)  -  Rp 90.000

Penempatannya melingkar mengikuti mangkuk dolsot nya, membuat presentasinya menarik.

A mixed dish of vegetable and rice, usually with meat, but this one is a vegetarian version. This is probably one the most well known Korean food in the world. The name is translated as "Mixed Rice", which is a suiting description.
Vegetables commonly used in bibimbap include julienned cucumber, zucchini, mu (daikon), mushrooms, spinach, soybean sprouts, gim (nori) and gosari (bracken fern stems).
Dubu (tofu), either plain or sautéed, or a leaf of lettuce may be added, or chicken or seafood may be substituted for beef.

For visual appeal, the vegetables are often placed so adjacent colors complement each other. Placed in a hot stone bowl (dolsot) and usually mixed before eating. If you like the caramel taste of burnt rice, you can leave it be and wait for the rice to be a bit overcooked, than you get the slightly burnt & carameled rice.

Jjamppong 짬뽕 - Rp 95.000

Jjampong is a spicy noodle soup, mixed with seafoods.
Traditionally, jjampong is a mixture of noodles, seafood, other meats, and vegetables. One can prepare it spicy and non-spicy, though most people refer to jjampong as a spicy seafood noodle soup.
Jjampong noodles soups are very easy to make, that’s why it’s very popular among Koreans. One just needs to “mix” the ingredients to come up with a mouth-watering dish.
Interestingly, this dish also have a Japanese counterpart, Champon, a Nagasaki cuisine.
They are both influenced by the Chinese Fujian dish.

Kimbab 김밥  -  Rp 70.000

The literal translation of the word kimbap is seaweed rice. These two things are the most basic components of kimbap. From there, you can find many variations on the filling, including fish, meat, eggs, and vegetables, whether pickled, roasted, or fresh.
Traditionally, the rice is lightly seasoned with salt and sesame oil/perilla oil. Popular protein ingredients are fish cakes, imitation crab meat, eggs and/or seasoned beef rib-eye. Vegetables usually include cucumbers, spinach, carrots and danmuji (pickled radish). After the gimbap has been rolled and sliced, it is typically served with danmuji

Yangnyeom Galbi / Grilled Beef (소갈비)  -  Rp 140.000

Hyumit Gui / Beef Tounge 혀밑구이 -  Rp 110.000

The meat in the middle and underneath the chopstick is Yangnyeom Galbi and Hyumit Gui, which are grilled beef tounge and meat. Though not they lack the appearance but they taste pretty good. This beef are eaten by wrapping it first in lettuce or sesame leave.

Dilipat dua kali sehingga tertutup, selanjutnya silakan menikmati.

Here is how to eat the grilled meat in traditional Korean Restaurant.

First you put some rice and chilli (Go Chu Jang) along with the grilled meat, in this photo it's a gilled beef tounge. Wrapped in a sesame leave / lettuce. fold it twice and... bon appetite.

Here's how it look after all the dishes arrived, we're just in a table for four, but it looked like a feast whole big family.
Since this is my first time going here, I got a birthday cake to celebrate the occasion. Little did we know that the table would be filled this packed, that's why the waitress wasn't that perceptive when we asked her to bring the cake, she must be confused where to put it in this super packed table ^^

For dessert, they gave us complimentary watermelon and chocolate filled with cream filling. It taste quite good, anything free is always soo nice ^^

We end up paying Rp 583.000 for four person, though seems expensive, it's quite worth it, keeping in mind the abundance of banchan / side dishes ^^
