Biasanya, kalau dapat undangan acara
tunangan (tinjing / tingfen) untuk kalangan peranakan Tionghoa, ekspektasi saya pasti diadakan di Restoran Cina. Acara tunangan ini, untuk kalangan Chinese memang relatif lebih
kental nuansa tradisionalnya dibandingkan acara pernikahan. Untuk saya
sendiri lebih nyaman dengan nuansa western sebetulnya, tapi biasanya jarang ada
opsi tersebut. Kebetulan kali ini ada satu tempat alternatif dengan nuansa
berbeda dan menyajikan western food, Pavilion di Hotel JW Marriott.
Engagements party for
the Chinese diaspora in Indonesia are usually done in Chinese Restaurants, with
plenty of traditional and ethnic flare. There hasn't been a lot of alternatives
for this kind of banquet, luckily now there's a western restaurant that's

Pavilion menyediakan
seluruh area restoran untuk tamu yang mengadakan acara pertunangan di sini,
setahu saya untuk hotel bintang 5 baru resto ini yang pernah menyediakan
layanan setara. Pesaing-pesaing terdekatnya memiliki tempat resto dengan buffet
yang lebih besar, jadi tidak cocok untuk dipakai acara tunangan yang tamunya
biasanya hanya beberapa puluh orang.
Pavilion restaurant
are suitable for engagement event, since the dining area isn't really big, and
it's also feel private. Other 5 star hotel counterparts usually have larger
area for their restaurant catering international buffets, hence they're not
really ideal for party of less than 100 people.

Di bagian depan resto
ada station untuk teh Dilmah. PIlihan rasanya ada guava, apel dan lemon tea.
Pertama-tama rasanya cukup enak, sayangnya sajian berikutnya terasa hambar
semua, mirip teh tawar dengan sedikit aroma, dan ini berlangsung dari saat
serving kedua hingga akhir acara. Perlu ada perbaikan dari tim beverage JW
Marriott & Dilmah.
In the front there's
Dilmah Tea station, which serves guava, apple and lemon tea.
At first serving the
taste is delicious, too bad afterwards it's very bland. Everything tastes like
plain tea with a bit of fruity aroma. This were the case from the second
serving and all the duration of lunch. There's definitely a lot of room of
improvement for this station.

Hidangan paling
lezat di Pavilion saat itu adalah appetizer / hidangan pembukanya. Rasanya enak
semua, mengingatkan saya dengan pengalaman breakfast di beberapa hotel di
Eropa, dua di antaranya Marriott
Stuttgart dan Courtyard
Brussel yang juga merupakan jaringan hotel Marriott.
The best part of this
buffet lunch were the appetizer. Having this delicious ham and cheese makes me
reminiscence of the breakfast I had in some European hotels, Marriott
Stuttgart and Courtyard
Brussel to name a few, both are also under Marriott hotel chain.

Salah satu menu yang
unik hari itu adalah Nasi Goreng Semangka. Menu baru yang pertama kali saya
rasakan di sini. UNtuk citarasanya tidak jauh berbeda dengan ansi goreng merah
biasanya, tapi dengan rasa yang sedikit lebih lembut.
Watermelon Fried Rice
is quite intriguing, this is the first of it's kinds that I've ever tasted. It
didn't taste much difference from the usual red Tomato and Chili fried rice,
albeit with subtler taste.

Hidangan Main
Coursenya tidak ada yang spesial, standardnya lebih mirip bintang 3 dibanding
bintang 5 sebetulnya, tapi pilihannya cukup banyak. Ada siumay, stir fry, laksa
dan beberapa pilihan menu lainnya. Overall masih kalah dibandingkan Sheraton
Their mains are a tad
boring, but certainly not bad. It's a bit more like a 3 star hotel buffet
spread, albeit with more options. There's siumay, stir fries, Laksa and other
meaty cuisine. For the main course, I liked Sheraton's Kafe Bromo more than
this place.
Desserts

While the main course is just standard, the dessert is another matter. It's sub par in-comparison to other 5 star hotels in Surabaya. Desserts table are usually my favorite in a buffet, but this time the taste is just strange. Usually they're quite nice with a balanced sweetness, smooth and soft textured. In short, the dessert here is quite the opposite of what I wrote earlier.

Walau tampilannya
menarik, tapi rasa cakenya kurang pas, teksturnya kasar dan kadang ada yang
terasa bantat. Untuk dessert selain cake masih ok, mousse dan creamnya juga
tidak ada keluhan, tapi begitu ketemu cake.. euh
Though it looks nice,
the taste really wasn't up to par. It's quite flaky and brittle, really
different from the usual 5 star hotel fare. Apart from the cakes, other items
are still nice, their mousse and cream desserts tastes alright.

Apa mungkin karena paket acara yg dipesan? Soalnya pernah juga makan di salah satu resto di Surabaya, ketika ala carte tidak sesegar ingredients pilihan paket yg malah sedikit lebih mahal... Saya bilang mungkin lho... :)

Deletesayangnya saya sudah agak lama ngga ke sini untuk buffet jadi tidak bisa bandingkan apa menu saat acara beda dengan buffet biasa
kalau ala carte nya rasanya belum pernah coba di sini, buffetnya selalu lebih menggoda :D
