Kedai 3 Nyonya - Surabaya
Kalau ditanya, di mana resto Indonesia favorit saya, jawaban saya adalah Kedai Tiga Nyonya - Yogyakarta.
Nah ketika cabangnya buka di Surabaya, sempat antusias banget dengan resto satu ini, tapi... ternyata ada beberapa perbedaan dibanding yang Yogyakarta.
Satu, lokasinya agak unik, di Diponegoro tapi yang ujung.... banget, dekat dengan Kebon Binatang Surabaya. jadi lumayan jauh dari tempat saya tinggal, dan sempat agak lama mencarinya baru tahu di mana lokasi nya. Sedangkan di Yogyakarta terletak di hotel phoenix dan dekat stasiun tugu, mayoritas turis kemungkinan besar pernah melewatinya saat bertamasya.
Untuk urusan rasa, juga ada perbedaan, di cabang Yogya rasanya cenderung legit, lezat, subtle tastes, umami (gurih). Sedangkan di Surabaya dominasinya asin dan savory, walaupun banyak kemiripan menunya, tapi rasanya cukup berbeda. Tidak sampai kurang enak, tapi dibanding yang Yogya masih kalah. Ditambah lagi harganya relatif lebih tinggi sekitar 20% dibandingkan harga menu di Yogyakarta.
If I was asked, which is my favorite Indonesian cuisine restaurant, I'd choose Kedai Tiga Nyonya, in Yogyakarta City. Kedai Tiga Nyonya is translated as "Three Madams Diner". Thus when they open shop in Surabaya, I got really excited. Too bad it's not quite up to the Yogyakarta;s standard.
For one, the location is a bit secluded, in the area I seldom visit, which is on the edge of Diponegoro street, close to Kebun Binatang Surabaya. The first time I couldn't find it and ends up eating in nearby hotel, on the second visit I manage to find it.
On the tastebud, they are quite different. Though the menu are the same, but the Yogya branch seems to emphasize on subtle, sweet umami tastes, whereas the Surabaya one are more spicy, savory and tangy but not really delicious, just sharp tastes of spices that doesn't blend well.

Di sisi lain, cabang Surabaya ada satu keunggulan, di desain dan dekorasinya, berhubung lokasinya relatif lebih luas (yang Yogya berada di ruko) jadi bisa lebih bebas mengisi resto dengan banyak pernak pernik vintage.
Saat kunjungan tersebut, kondisinya cukup sepi (hari Minggu) hanya ada saya dan tamu di meja lain, yang sama-sama membawa kamera DSLR. Kita cukup beruntung sebagai penghobi foto, karena bisa banyak memfoto interiornya tanpa mengganggu tamu lainnya.
On the good side, the Surabaya branch is in a larger building (the Yogya branch is in home office) which is quite nice, they can pack a lot of vintage decorations on the restaurant.
On my visit here, it is quite vacant, there was only another guest with his family in another table. Both of us had DSLR, so we had quite a good time shooting the interior of the restaurant, without bothering other guests. :)
Di Kedai tiga nyonya ada 2 tempat private yang bisa dipakai untuk acara keluarga atau arisan. Tempat satu ini yang berlantai hijau cukup berkesan, karena di sinilah saya pertama kali ke Kedai Tiga Nyonya Surabaya saat mendampingi RUPS satu PT yang menjadi klien.
There are two private dining area, which can be used for family gathering or meetings. This particular area with green flooring brings quite a memory, the first time I went here was when attending a client's general meeting of shareholders.
Di dinding ini diletakkan jam kuno dan piring, yang sedikit mengingatkan saya pada resto Sarkies di Hotel Majapahit, yang termasuk restaurant dengan interior favorit untuk saya.
On this wall, there's an old clock and plates, which in a way reminds me of Sarkies in Hotel Majapahit, which is also my personal favourite for restaurant ambiance.
Puas melihat interiornya, saatnya mengulas menu-menu makanan dan minumannya.
Untuk makanannya rasanya lumayan, sayang untuk ukuran Surabaya cukup tinggi, tapi untuk selera saya tidak seenak yang chain resto terkenal seperti Ria Galeria salah contohnya.
Saya sempat kangen dengan pohong nya yang menjadi favorit saya di Yogyakarta (garlic casava) sayangnya waktu kunjungan ini sold out... dooh (-.-;)
Here is the food and beverages we ordered.
While it didn't taste bad, but it's quite expensive for Indonesian Restaurant, and too bad it's not as good as the more famous Indonesian eateries in Surabaya like Ria Galeria (for my taste).
One of the food (appetizer) that I really missed from Yogyakarta is the simple garlic casava, unfortunately they sold out on the day of my visit

Here are some of the drinks, to bad not as good looking as the Yogya ones, the third one which was a kind of ice campur is a bit of a joke, too little and somewhat unappetizing

Di sini juga tidak terlalu cerewet untuk urusan foto, saya sempat jalan-jalan dan memakai setting sekitar resto untuk tempat hunting foto teman saya, cukup menarik kalau ingin mencoba foto-foto di sini, terutama kalau pas kostumnya Kebaya, mungkin saat kelulusan kuliah ^^
This place is quite nice for photo taking, they don't fret about people taking photo of their property. On this occasion, while waiting for the food to come, we had a good photo hunting session with my friend. If you happen to go here with a tradisional Kebaya dress it would be nice and fitting, maybe on special occasion like graduation where girls are usually using traditional Kebaya dress.

Untuk pertama kali saya akan memberikan score di blog ini, untuk perbandingan antara Kedai Tiga Nyonya Yogya vs Surabaya. Kalau cabang Yogya dari skala 1 - 10, mendapat nilai 8.5 menurut saya, sedangkan yang Surabaya hanya mendapat nilai 7.

I don't usually give score here on the blog, but for the benefit of clear comparison, for a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Yogyakarta's Kedai Tiga Nyonya a score of 8.5 while the Surabaya one only gets a 7
