Sanpachi Ramen / Ramen 38 - Surabaya Town Square (SUTOS)
Ramen 38 ini adalah salah satu ramen dengan rasa yang (katanya) otentik Jepang, mirip dengan Ikkousha Ramen. Berhubung saya memang sudah agak lama ngga pernah ke Jepang, dan terakhir ke sana juga ngga ingat ngicipin Ramen (tahun 1996).
Jaman itu yang populer masih Sukiyaki, Shabu-Shabu dan Yakiniku. Orang Surabaya masih geli banget kalau lihat ikan mentah Sashimi atau Sushi, Ramen juga termasuk masih kalah pamor jauh dibanding pangsit mie dkk :D
Ramen 38 is one of the Ramen which said to have authentic japanese taste, which is similar to Ikkousha Ramen in western Surabaya. Since it's been a while since I went to Japan (1996) I don't really know for sure how authenthic Ramen should really taste.
Those days, Sukiyaki, Shabu-shabu and Yakiniku was all the craze in Surabaya / Indonesian foodies, people would cringe at the thought of eating raw fish like Sashimi and Sushi which is currently the trending Japanese food here, along with Ramen.

Bumbu pendampingnya mirip sekali dengan si Ikkousha, tapi bedanya di ikkousha ada bawang goreng, sedangkan di Sanpachi ini ada wijen, kalau saya lebih gemar wijen dibanding berambang goreng.
Bawang putih mentahnya juga sudah dalam keadaan dilumat, sedangkan di Ikkousha disediakan bawang utuh terkupas dengan disediakan garlic crusher.
The condiments are almost the same with Ikkousha, the only difference is Ikkousha have fried shallot, whereas Sanpachi have sesame seeds, I'd say sesame seeds is nicer than fried shallots, so kudos to Sanpachi.
The raw garlic here are already crushed, whereas in Ikkousha the garlic is whole and peeled, with a garlic crusher provided.
Masalah rasa, mirip dengan Ikkousha, kuahnya sangat kuat rasa dagingnya, berhubung kaldunya dibuat dengan merebus dua hari dua malam / 48 jam.
Kalau kuahnya, menurut selera saya, baik Ikkousha maupun Sanpachi ini terlalu kuat rasa dagingnya, tapi kalau partner makan saya sih suka.
Karena paling mirip dengan Ikkousha, saya kemarin sempat memperbandingkan dan menanyakan ke partner yang termasuk meat lover, untuk kuah kaldunya, Ikkousha unggul rasanya. Sedangkan untuk rasa mie nya, di Sanpachi ini lebih enak, tekstur, rasa dan kekenyalannya ok.
Tastewise, this Ramen is similar to Ikkousha, both broth have a very strong meat taste, because they are boiled for two days and night / 48 hours. For my own taste, they both have an overwhelmingly strong meaty taste, which isn't really to my liking (I was on a vegetarian diet for a year back in 2011). Thankfully my partner in crime is an avid meat lover, so we can have a more balanced oppinion.
Because it share a few same traits, we compared this Sanpachi Ramen with Ikkousha. For the broth we think Ikkousha have the edge, but the noodles in Sanpachi is way better, either taste or texture.

Sanpachi Ramen Menu - Jigoku Ramen |
This Jigoku Ramen is one of the dish that make this place popular, this Ramen have 10 level of spiciness / hotness. Because brissels can't stand even a hint of chilli, she hadn't tried this noodle yet. And this is my first time eating in this restaurant, since it's brissels who frequaently goes here. Her favorite is Mon Tofu Ramen.
