Setelah beberapa
kali mencoba hidangan-hidangan seafood yang 'serupa tapi tak sama' di daerah
Manyar Kertoarjo, malam ini saya mendapat undangan spesial dari Caribbean
Restaurant untuk mencoba hidangan seafood yang cukup berbeda dengan kebanyakan
resto seafood di Surabaya :)

menyajikan hidangan yang kebanyakan bergaya western dan Perancis, serta
beberapa pilihan menu fusion.
After a few consecutive times trying out the
plain old seafood in Manyar Kertoarjo area, tonight I got a chance to taste a
seafood restaurant that's a cut from different cloth. Caribbean Restaurant, an
outdoorsy restaurant with Caribbean and nautical theme, serving up western,
french and fusion cuisine.
Begitu masuk
disambut dengan banyak ornamen ala kapal di karibia yang lucu, ada drum minyak,
pelampung dan tali tambang yang khas nautical. Tempat duduknya pun nyaman dan
rapi, tidak seperti resto outdoor serupa yang biasanya agak acak kadut kualitas
meja dan kursinya. Kudos untuk desainernya yang bisa menghadirkan nuansa yang
menarik ini.
At first sight of the restaurant, you can
immediately feel the nautical theme, there's a bit of whimsical elements but
it's still quite refined. Usually in this kind of outdoorsy themed restaurant,
the table and seating quality are way below my expectation, but here they put
quite an attention to detail and I love it.
Saya sempat mengira
bakal kepanasan di sini, seperti pengalaman ketika makan di Naked Crab yang
ada di sebelahnya, ternyata jauh dari bayangan saya, di sini cukup sejuk karena
desainnya lebih terbuka. Jadi tempat ini cocok banget untuk dates atau perayaan
anniversary, bisa menikmati suasana outdoor tanpa harus merasa seperti sauna.
At first I thought it's gonna be hot and
humid dining experience, like the one I had two months ago in Naked
Crab next door. Turns out
it's a whole different experience, this restaurant have lots of opening, so we
get the gentle breeze of Surabaya night air. That makes this place suitable for
dates and special occasions where you'd like to wear something nice without
feeling like you're dating on a Swedish sauna.

Hidangan
pertama yang muncul adalah udang bakar dengan saus asam manis. Walaupun di
daftar menunya disebut sweet and sour chilli sauce, tidak terasa pedas sama
sekali, hanya sedikit spicy. Jadi cocok untuk yang tidak suka pedas. Rasanya
pas seimbang antara tangy dan sweet nya, jadi hidangannya tidak semanis olahan
serupa di resto cina. Sebetulnya disantap begitu saja sudah maknyoes banget,
tapi kalau ingin lebih bright tasting lagi bisa ditambahi perasan jeruk lemon
yang disediakan.
Selain udangnya
cukup enak, calamari ring yang menjadi side dish juga tidak kalah lezat. Beda
dengan onion ring di kebanyakan resto yang relatif hambar, lalu diberi cocolan
saus mayo, di sini calamarinya sendiri sudah berbumbu, rasanya enak sekali,
mungkin kalau disuruh memilih, saya malah sedikit lebih suka calamarinya
dibanding udangnya, walau keduanya juga sama-sama lezat :)
The first dish we tried were the Grilled
Prawn, we choose the sweet and sour chili sauce.
Though mentioning chili, the dish itself
isn't hot at all. It's just mildly spiced, with bright tangy sauce that seems
to be marinated long enough, making the taste evenly spread and succulent.
There's a sliced lemon for those who like to add a bit more zest, but for me the dish itself was quite perfectly seasoned as is.

Another surprise for me is the Calamari ring,
it's just a side dish and I first thought of it as onion ring. Turns out this
sides really shines, it tastes savory and a bit spicy, I love them. If I had to
choose I'd even say I like the Calamari more, though the shrimp are also
delicious.

Hidangan kedua dan
bintang malam ini adalah Lobster Thermidor. Salah satu hidangan yang cukup
menarik, cocok untuk yang suka dengan paduan tekstur dan rasa keju yang lembut
berpadu dengan daging lobster. Nah sebelum lebih lanjut membahasnya, saya perlu
menjelaskan sedikit kalau selera saya untuk seafood tidak terlalu suka yang
plain, jadi hidangan ini cocok dengan selera saya. Kalau yang seleranya
berbeda, bisa mencoba herb & butter sauce yang lebih mempertahankan aroma
asli lobsternya.
Tingkat kematangan
lobsternya di sini pas, jadi daging lobsternya masih lembut dan juicy.
The second dish is the main attraction,
Grilled Lobster Thermidor. I love the taste of the creamy Thermidor sauce mixed
with the lobster.
For those of you who don't really like creamy
cheese flavor, the second most popular dish is the herb and butter sauce, which
usually retain much of the original lobster flavor.
The lobster meat was juicy and soft, which
comes from perfect cooking timing. I usually find lobsters in other restaurants
a tad overcooked.

Lobster Thermidor adalah hidangan
Perancis, biasanya berupa daging lobster dengan saus krim yang lembut, dicampur
dengan kuning telur dan brandy lalu diisikan ke dalam cangkang lobsternya.
Cara alternatif mengolahnya adalah dengan melelehkan keju di atas lobster yang sudah dibelah untuk menunjukkan bagian dagingnya, dengan diberi campuran bumbu mustard. Yang kali ini saya cicipi adalah lobster thermidor dengan cara masak yang kedua
Lobster Thermidor is a French dish consisting of a creamy mixture
of cooked lobster meat, egg yolks, and brandy (often cognac), stuffed into a lobster shell. It can
also be served with an oven-browned cheese crust,
typically Gruyère. The
sauce must contain mustard (typically
powdered mustard).
Lobster Thermidor was created in 1894 by Marie's, a Parisian
restaurant near the theatre Comédie Française,
to honour the opening of the play Thermidor by Victorien Sardou. The play took its name from
a summer month in the French
Republican Calendar, during which the Thermidorian Reaction occurred,
overthrowing Robespierre and
ending the Reign of Terror.[1] Due to expensive and extensive
preparation involved, Lobster Thermidor is usually considered a recipe

Resto satu ini cukup
recomended untuk penyuka seafood, terutama lobster. Harganya termasuk
terjangkau kalau dibandingkan beberapa restaurant lain yang menyediakan
hidangan serupa. Kalaupun ada yang terasa sedikit kurang malam itu, hanya di
minumannya yang rasanya ala kadar. Untuk hidangan seafoodnya, top notch.
This is a good place to visit if you're a
seafood aficionado, especially if you have weakness for lobster. The price is
quite affordable in comparison with similar establishment. And if there
anything lacking that night, it would just be the drink which we found a bit
bland. The seafood dishes on the other hand, were top notch.
