Beberapa bulan lalu saya menghadiri pesta pernikahan teman di Bali. Berkat salah satu maskapai yang jago telat (inisial : Late is Our Nature) akhirnya saya tidak sempat menghadiri makan malam BBQ di hari pertama yang diadakan di Jimbaran. Berhubung masih lapar akhirnya kita memutuskan untuk jalan ke daerah Seminyak untuk makan malam yang agak larut.


A few month ago I was attending a friend's wedding in Bali. Thanks to a certain airline that's never seem to depart on time (initial : Late is Our Nature), we missed the first day BBQ dinner which was held in Jimbaran.
Undeterred and being famished, we ended up going to Seminyak for a late dinner, scouring for an interesting eatery.

Pilihan kita akhirnya jatuh ke Gardin Bistro, salah satu yang sedang happening di daerah Seminyak. Tempatnya juga buka hingga larut malam dan ada tempat dugem di belakang restonya, jadi cocok untuk yang doyan ngaret kalau janjian makan malam.


We decided to try the Gardin Bistro, which is located in Seminyak area. The place is ready to serve customer until the late night, since they also have a clubbing area at the back. Suitable for late dinner and those who got hammered with multiple airline delays.

Tempatnya menarik dan area makannya nyaman dan luas. Supir taksi sempat beberapa kali nyasar karena papan penunjuk namanya tidak terlalu tampak. Area parkirnya cukup luas, tapi terletak agak ke dalam di dalam bangunan lain, jadi yang pakai high heels lebih baik di turunkan dulu di depan resotnya, atau menggunakan layanan valet.

The place is quite nice, with spacious and comfortable dining area. The place is quite low key though, need an extra effort to find it, since my taxi driver had to drive around twice before finding the place. The parking space is also located in adjacent building, so be sure to drop your stiletto wearing friends in front of the bistro first before parking, or use the valet service.

Gardin Bistro Bali - Escargot (Rp 85.000)

Karena tidak terbiasa makan malam di atas jam 6, kali ini yang saya pesan adalah hidangan pembuka saja, Escargot alias siput. Dimasak dengan butter, garlic dan herbs, rasanya cukup lezat. Lebih enak dibanding yang saya rasakan di Confit, tapi cukup wajar dan tetap lebih worth it yang di confit karena harganya Rp 150.000 untuk set menu lengkap, sedangkan di sini appetizer saja Rp 85.000


Since I rarely eat dinner, and it was around 9 in the evening, I decided to order an appetizer, Escargot, which were cooked with herb and garlic butter. It tastes quite nice, better than the one I had in Confit.
Price considered the Confit is still better overall, since it costs just Rp 150.000 for a complete set menu, while the Escargot in Gardin costs Rp 85.000

Gardin Bistro - Asian Glazed Orange & Honey Turkey Breast (Rp 145.000)

Pilihan menu utamanya jatuh ke daging yang lumayan jarang ditemui di Surabaya, kalkun. Partner dinner saya kali ini dalam masa pertumbuhan (ke samping ^^) jadi sempat berharap porsinya tidak seimut yang di atas.
Plating-nya menarik, sayangnya terlalu sedikit, hanya ada empat potongan kecil kalkun dan kentang yang diiris tipis-tipis untuk menemani si kalkun, dalam piring hitam yang ukurannya sebetulnya standard, tapi jadi kelihatan besar akibat diisi hidangan liliput.


For the main course we had the Turkey Breast. It costs Rp 145.000, so we kinda expect it to be a regular sized dish, so we were quite surprise to see that it was more of an appetizer rather than a main course.
On the bright side the plating was nice, though the dish itself was meager. It consists of four tiny cuts of turkey, served with thinly sliced potatoes and a bit of vegetables. The plate itself is a standard sized plate, but the lilliputian cuisine makes it looks much bigger.

Cocktail yang kelihatannya terlalu besar ukurannya, jadi hasil akhirnya malah tidak terasa apa-apa. Rasa manisnya nanggung, liquor nya nanggung, serba aneh. Sempat berharap lebih dibandingkan cocktail ala Surabaya, ternyata tidak jauh beda. Heran juga kok sulit mendapatkan cocktail rasa ok, padahal tiap kali dapat cocktail 'gratisan' di pesawat terbang, selalu ok.


A cocktail that's to big for it's own good. The end result just tastes 'meh', a bit watery for me. I Had high hope on this drink, thinking it would be much better then the concoction I usually had in Surabaya. I wonder if it that hard to mix a decent cocktail, I remember all the 'free' cocktail I ordered in airplanes are much better than this.
