Franchise fastfood ayam dan seafood ini dahulu pernah buka di TP dan PTC, lebih dari 10 tahun lalu seingat saya. Dahulu harganya lumayan premium dibandingkan gerai sejenis, tapi kualitasnya memang setara. Sayangnya saat itu pasar Surabaya kurang sesuai untuk Popeyes dan akhirnya tutup.

Popeyes had two of it branches open here in Surabaya before, about 10 years ago I recall. It was always on the premium range price-wise, but the quality was also good. Too bad the market wasn't ready for that kind of fast food and Popeyes of Surabaya went out of business.

Sekarang baru saja dibuka gerai baru di Terminal 2 juanda. Sepintas terlihat menggoda, berhubung ada nilai nostalgianya juga buat saya, ketika mengantar saudara ke Airport, kita memutuskan untuk mencoba lunch di sini.

Now there's a new Popeyes in Surabaya Airport, Juanda Terminal 2. We were tempted to try it, it wasn't really interesting at first, but for me they have a nostalgic value. So we ended up having lunch here.

Pricingnya mirip seperti dahulu, artinya harganya premium, di atas rata-rata fastfood lainnya. Sempat berpikir untuk mencoba seafood nya, tapi untuk amannya kita pesan paket 3 ayam + side dishes dan minum ini.

Their pricing is similar to before, a bit steep in comparison with other fast food joint. At first I wanted to try their seafood, but keeping in mind their still quite new and we've never heard much about them, we opted for the Chicken dish.

Ternyata kualitas rasanya beda jauh dengan Popeye yang dahulu untuk selera saya. Dari semua hidangan ini yang enak hanya Cajun fries nya. Ayamnya sendiri kurang rasa, biscuitnya sedikit terlalu manis. Yang paling parah sebetulnya bukan di citarasanya sendiri, tapi ada rasa ngendal di tepungnya (kemungkinan dari ayam) yang seharian terasa di langit-langit mulut hingga mendekati malam.

We tried this dish, a plater of 3 chickens, Cajun Fries and Biscuit. With a cup of softdrink in the menu package. Too bad the taste was miles away in comparison to their old eatery in TP and PTC. The Cajun Fries were the best tasting dish of the bunch, the biscuit was a tad too sweet for our taste, making it more suitable as dessert. The worst part is the chicken, at first it was kinda bland, and we thought it was quite ok, since the meat quality wasn't bad. A few moment later we had the worst after taste of uncooked flour or such, which ended up in our tastebuds until late in the afternoon.

Dari segi kebersihan tempat dan lainnya sih Popeyes cukup ok, tapi sayang untuk urusan rasa makanannya terlalu minus untuk kita, bahkan dibanding ayam franchise ala kadar seperti Giant Fried Chicken kok masih kalah nikmat. Entah karena memang standardnya demikian atau ada masalah di QC nya hari itu.

Popeyes here is quite clean and the seatings also quite comfy, too bad the dishes weren't up to the standards, we really don't feel the price is justified with the lackluster tasting dishes we tried. Even when compared with new franchise like Giant Fried Chicken which is run by a supermarket company, Popeyes still lacks behind. I'm not really sure if this is truly their standard or there were something wrong with their quality control that day.
