When Ronde meets Tangyuan

Biasanya di seputar Manyar Kertoarjo dan Kertajaya ada beberapa penjaja ronde yang cukup populer, keduanya juga sempat jadi langganan saya beberapa saat. Rasanya sih lumayan, popularitasnya lebih karena lokasinya yang strategis dibanding citarasanya. Ternyata ada lagi Ronde di daerah Timur yang lebih cocok untuk selera saya, Ronde Ny Tiwan.

Around the Manyar Kertoarjo and Kertajaya street there are several street vendor selling Ronde.

Those vendor had a decent Ronde, but nothing special taste-wise, it's popularity mainly due to it's convenient location. Now I've recently found one Ronde seller that's more to my liking, Ronde Ny Tiwan.

If you're wondering what is ronde, here's a short description from Wikipedia :

• Ronde (wedhang ronde): a hot Javanese dessert containing glutinous rice balls stuffed with peanut paste, floating in a hot and sweet ginger and lemongrass tea. Influence by the Chinese sweet dumpling tangyuan.

Ronde Ny Tiwan - Rungkut Mapan

Beberapa waktu yang lalu saat menjemput saudara di Juanda, saya menyempatkan mampir di depot yang ada di Rungkut Mapan untuk mencoba Ronde dan Angsle. Tempat ini ternyata dikelola oleh kerabatnya Ronde tersohor di Surabaya Barat, Inge Chen, Namanya Ronde Wiguna Ny Tiwan. Orang biasanya lebih mengenal sebagai Ronde Rungkut.

Sayangnya saya belum pernah nyoba sendiri yang Inge Chen, jadi tidak tahu benar mirip atau tidak. 

Dua minggu lalu sempat berencana ke Inge Chen tapi dapat alamat yang salah di Pujasera Agojas, ternyata Inge Chen sekarang ada di Simpang Darmo Permai Selatan 8/17.

Walaupun belum bisa bandingkan dengan Inge Chen, yang pasti, rasa Ronde dan Angsle di Rungkut Mapan ini makynus.

A couple of week ago, we were picking up relative in Juanda airport, and on the way we decided to try the Ronde & Angsle Ny Tiwan in Rungkut Mapan street.
Turns out this place is run by a relatives of Ronde Inge Chen owner, a well known Ronde vendor in Western part of Surabaya.

Unfortunately I've never had the chance to try the famous Ronde Inge Chen yet. I tried visiting it, got unlucky because I used a wrong address of Agojas Foodcourt which is now closed, the right address of Inge Chen Ronde is in Simpang Darmo Permai Selatan 8/17.

Nevertheless, this Ronde Rungkut Mapan by Ny Tiwan is delicious.

Ronde Wiguna

Untuk perbandingan, selain dua warung di manyar, rasa ronde yang saya ingat adalah di 369 dan Happy Garden . Ronde di dua resto tersebut tentunya lebih mahal, tapi sajiannya lebih sederhana karena merujuk pada Tangyuan. Walau demikian ada sedikit kemiripan di kuah jahenya yang jernih dan aroma jahe yang kuat, tapi toppingnya jauh lebih beragam di Ronde Ny Tiwan.

For comparison sake, there's two other Ronde which taste I still remember fondly, they are from 369 chinese restaurant and Happy Garden. This two restaurant are priced above this one but they are influenced by the Chinese Tangyuan, so it's presented in a much simpler way. There's similarity in the broth though, which are pungent and clear tasting, but the Ny Tiwan's Ronde have the distinct Javanese flair which puts a more toppings in the dish.

Citarasa Ronde di sini seperti gabungan antara Ronde Jawa Tengah dan Tangyuan, toppingnya rame, tapi rasanya cukup lembut dan wangi.

The Ronde here is like a mixture of Central Javanese Ronde and Tangyuan, the toppings are plenty but the taste are mild and fragrant.

Ronde Ny Tiwan Rungkut Mapan (Rp 12.000)

Pertama saya kira Rondenya menu paling enak di sini, setelah mencoba Angslenya, ternyata malah saya lebih tertarik dengan si Angsle.

At first I thought the Ronde was gonna be my favorite dish tonight, since the namesake of the place is Ronde dish. Turns out I was wrong, the Angsle here is even more delicious.
