Pengalaman Terbang dengan Qatar Airways

Saya biasanya setahun beberapa kali berkesempatan ke luar negeri untuk wisata atau bekerja, biasanya satu di antaranya bakal cukup nyaman karena menggunakan full fledge carrier alias maskapai standard, bukannya LCC atau maskapai biaya rendah. Teman-teman biasanya banyak yang menjadi fans Cathay dan SQ selain Garuda yang maskapai nasional kita, saya sendiri sempat menjadikan British Airways sebagai favorit, tapi sudah agak lama sejak penerbangan terkahir dengan BA, jadi kurang tahu kondisinya sekarang.
Kali ini saya berkesempatan mencoba Qatar, yang 2015 ini menjadi Airline terbaik versi Skytrax

I usually travel abroad a few times a year, one of them usually bound to be a full fledged carrier rather than the no frills low cost carriers (LCC). Indonesian such as myself usually mention Cathay and SQ as their favorites beside Garuda which are our national carrier, when asked
about airlines. I myself loves British Airways for their astute service and politeness.
This time I had a first encounter with a gulf carrier, Qatar Airways, which is the Skytrax #1 best airline (http://www.worldairlineawards.com/awards/world_airline_rating.html)

Dalam perjalanan ke tempat duduk, saya sempat mengambil foto tempat duduk kelas bisnisnya. Kelihatannya sangat nyaman, tapi harganya yang aduhai bakal bikin tidak tega untuk booking.
Perbandingan sederhana menggunakan widget wego di samping blog ini, saya mencoba cek harga tiket kelas bisnis untuk tanggal 5 Januari 2016 dengan penerbangan kembali tanggal 20 Januari, butuh biaya sekitar $4300 (link ke harga)
Sedangkan tiket ekonomi bakal menghabiskan biaya $1600 (link ke harga), jadi ada beda hampir 3x lipat.

On our way to my seat I glanced at the business class seating. It's quite sweet, though pricewise would be a killer
a simple comparison using the wego tab in my blog sidebar, the Business class fare at 5'th January with 20'th January 2016 return, would be $4300 (link to Business Class price)
while using economy the same trip would costs be $1600 (link to Economy Class price)
so thats almost 3 times cost difference.

Fotonya mungkin tidak bisa secara maksimal memberi kesan betapa nyamannya kabin pesawat ini. Warnanya yang ungu ini sepintas terlihat ngejreng dan agak norak, tapi sebenarnya cukup nyaman dan memberikan kesan trendi sekaligus mewah.
The photo might not do it justice, since the dynamic range of my previous camera weren't the best, but the ambiance here is really nice. I love the purple led lighting, which could easily become tacky, but this particular setting made the cabin seems so cozy while still chic.
Saya sangat bersyukur dengan adanya LCC, tapi kalau jarak tempuhnya lebih dari 4 jam rasanya mending nambah biaya dan naik maskapai biaya penuh, perjalanan terakhir dengan LCC Air Asia X ke Jepang yang ditempuh sekitar 6 jam cukup membuat penat, berhubung jarak kursi yang sempit dan sandaran kursi yang terlalu tegak meski sudah direbahkan
I'm really grateful for those LCC and the cost saving they provide, despite that, for flight time of over 4 hours I strongly recommend using a full fledged carrier. On my last long haul flight using Air Asia X was quite uncomfortable, due to the narrow seat gap and the seat-rest that doesn't recline much.

Menurut selera saya menu vegetarian di atas adalah yang paling enak di antara ketiga pilihan menu yang ada saat penerbangan. Sebagian orang mungkin lebih suka dengan menu internasional yang tidak terlalu unik, untuk saya pribadi malah jauh lebih senang dengan pilihan menu yang (sepertinya) mengadopsi masakan timur tengah ini.
The Vegetarian dish I had that day was probably the best out of the 3 dishes served, the other were nice too. Some people might prefer dishes with international flair, but for me, the cuisine selection which seems to have a middle eastern influence is perfectly fine.

Flight with Qatar QR955 and it's crew were surely pleasant. I didn't feel any hiccup in their service at all, they were courteous and friendly. Food were great, seating is quite comfortable, with up to date inflight entertainment and modern cabin ambiance. They surely deserve the spot in the top spot.
